Student Visa Department
The Student Visa Department is responsible for assisting international students in determining student visa eligibility, securing, completing and submitting the appropriate immigration forms needed for change of status. This office has the only Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) department with personnel authorized to issue the Form I-20, that is required in order to request an F-1 or M-1 Student Visa from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Additionally, for those requesting to attend on an Exchange Visitors J-1 Visa, this is the only office with authorized personnel to sign and approve the sponsoring organization’s Exchange Visitor School Acceptance Form. All M-DCPS high schools are Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified schools.
According to Section 625 of Public Law 104-208, M-DCPS cannot process the Form I-20 for international students in grades K-8th. Additionally, it also limits attendance in public secondary schools (grades 9 through 12 only) to a maximum of only one school year; and requires reimbursement to public secondary schools for the full, unsubsidized per capita cost of education for the intended period of study. Satisfactory progress and full time enrollment is required at all times.
